U.S. Congress seeking alternatives to Avgas

AEROMARKT 225 10/2007

A proposed law of the U.S. Congress provides a $750,000 budget beginning in the fiscal year 2008 for a research program that is to determine how existing piston engines could run on lead free aviation gas. "We have to confront the question of how existing aircraft can be operated with alternatives to avgas. It is a matter of our safety and our future", AOPA president Phil Boyer stated recently.
The debate about the environmental impact and availability of avgas that has been led in Europe for quite some time has finally reached the USA.
